This will begin our 5th week of school and we have really enjoyed having your child! J Thank you for visiting! Some of the things going on this week are…

-PTA “Back to School” Pep Rally will be Monday, Sept. 21 @ 6:30

-Book Fair will be going on THROUGH Thursday, Sept. 24

-Friday, Sept. 26 is PICTURE DAY! Dress to impress and bring your SMILE :)

Please remember to check your child’s PONY notebook DAILY! This is a very important way to communicate with you daily about behavior, homework, graded papers, etc. so please ask your child about it daily. :)

AR is continuing and each class is striving to complete their goals. Please encourage your child to read 20–30 minutes nightly aloud and take a test in the morning if they are ready. :) By now, they will know their level in which they can check out AR books from the library and should be taking tests daily, if not weekly!

**FYI - We will be TESTING through MAP this week! **

We are working very hard in class and at home! Here is what to expect this week!

Math – Adding & Subtracting numbers to the thousands, subtracting numbers across 0000’s, and review rounding

Reading – Summary (BeginningMiddleEnd) of stories. **This is a great way to help your child be ready for AR**

Science – Measurement (length, width, height) & units of measurement

Writing – Personal Narratives and good strong beginnings!

Social Studies – Star Spangled Banner and the U.S. Constitution

Grammar – Correct use of “and, or, but”

Spelling – Long /i/ words

This week we had COLLEGE DAY! Here's a picture of some 3rd grades representing their favorite college!

Have a WONDERFUL WEEK! :)

                        -Third Grade Team

Hi there! Thanks for visiting our blog! A huge SHOUT OUT to those parents who came to our Meet the Teacher Night! We were so happy you came and hopefully it was informative! J

We have a lot of stuff going on and we understand a lot of papers have gone home! It can be very overwhelming! I promise that aspect will slow down soon! J

There are amazing PARENT WORKSHOPS that will be going on all year long! If you can attend one of these, please do! They are extremely helpful and it can be nice to get to know other parents in your child’s grade level too. J **If you do go, please let your child’s teacher know! There may be a reward!**

Here is a link to the information on the PARENT WORKSHOPS!

This week we will begin our “I-Time” this is a 50 minute block of time where students will learn to collaborate on projects and work on skills with the teacher in a small group. Our “I-Time” is

Monday – Thursday from 1:15 – 2:05.

Just a reminder that homework needs to be turned in the next school day. AR is homework too! Please encourage your child to read out loud! Reading OUT LOUD is the best way to build the following KEY skills of reading…

-Fluency – how well & smoothly text is read.

-Comprehension – how well they understand the story

-Vocabulary – this builds context clues and helps students recognize when they don’t quite “get” a word

Hearing the words, Saying the words, and Seeing the words uses 3 of the 5 senses! The more they read OUT LOUD the more they remember! J

                     HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK! J

Welcome to the second week of school!

The first week went by so quickly I can hardly believe it! Your child should already be bringing his/her PONY notebook to and from school daily. This is a huge responsibility! Please make sure that it is checked every night and signed. We appreciate your cooperation!

TUESDAY 9/1/2015 We will have our "Meet the Teacher Night!" This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about your child's teacher, procedures of third grade, or see  your child's classroom! We hope to see you there!

This week we will be discussing the following:

Math Place value

*Please go over this with your child. This is one of the most important topics this year and will help us in all of math!

Reading Cause & Effect, & Text structures

*Show your child a magazine or newspaper.

Have them describe the text structures to you!

Writing adjectives & personal narratives

*Tell your child a story. Ask your child to raise his/her hand when they hear an adjective or word that describes!

Social Studies Department of Treasury

*Have your child tell you where its located and why its important?

Science Working like a scientist and fair testing
