This week has been drug awareness week here at school! We have loved seeing all the support from our 3rd graders who have participated!

This week we have also started taking donations for our PAJAMA DRIVE through Scholastic! We are so thrilled to be involved with an amazing program! We cannot wait to give back to our community and those in need especially for the holiday season! J Here’s how it works…

1.     Donate BRAND NEW Pajamas of ANY SIZE

2.   Bring the jammies to school

3.   Ms. Lane will have Scholastic pick them up DECEMBER !8th

4.     Scholastic donates 1 brand new book for each pair of pajamas to a needy child or family!

This week we are busy learning all kinds of things! Here is a little bit into what we are “into” in class! J

Science – STATES OF MATTER! They’re everywhere! Point them out and discuss.

Math – MULTIPLICATION! We use it all the time! Can you create word problems and make your parents solve!

Writing – HALLOWEEN WRITING! How does your writing impact the reader? What’s your favorite type of beginning!

Social Studies – THE ORIGINS OF HALLOWEEN! Who knew it started back thousands of years ago!

Reading – POETRY, AUTHOR’S PURPOSE & THEME! What is the THE(MEssage) you always try to follow?

 

This FRIDAY is picture RETAKE DAY! Please bring back your photos to return and retake them this FRIDAY! J

UPDATE FOR THIS WEEK! Progress reports will go home this Friday! Please make sure to sign the envelope and return it to your child’s teacher. J Remember, if your child is absent, they are in charge of the work they missed. We remind (a lot J) however, this is their responsibility. Please remind them to ask the teacher if they are missing an assignment! We appreciate your support and help with this! J

MORE TO COME SHORTLY!

It’s officially OCTOBER! We have a very short week this week (MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY) in order for our teacher and parents to meet for Fall Conferences. If you have scheduled a conference with your child’s teacher WAY TO GO! J If you have not, please schedule this ASAP! We schedule fall conferences on a first come first serve basis so please ask your child’s teacher for available time slots!

This week is also HERO week. We have talked about our Hero’s this week! A Hero is someone who protects or helps another person. We all want to strive to be a HERO! To celebrate being a HERO on THURSDAY OCTOBER 8th we will wear CAPES!

Since this is the beginning of the 2nd six weeks, we have all started over on AR! Congrats to all the 3rd graders who met their AR goal! J We are very proud of you and look forward to celebrating you at our awards assembly coming up!

Please check with your child as to what their NEW AR goal & range is.

 

FRIDAY OCTOBER 9th will be our Pearson Movie Night! Please bring family, friends, and come join us at Pearson! A flyer went home for this last week in PIE folders!

 

Please remember to work on Spellingcity.com for our spelling words and be reading at least 20 minutes a night to reach your new AR goal! J

We will be having several tests this week to allow your child to SHOW WHAT THEY KNOW! J These tests will check your childs understanding about key concepts discussed and learned in class.

Math – Place value, place value relationships, ways to write numbers, and money

Reading – Cause & effect, text features, main idea, comparing & contrasting, summary, sequencing, and author’s purpose.

WELCOME! Thank you for visiting our blog! We have a lot of things going on this week! Here’s a rundown of the most IMPORTANT stuff!

 

        -Make sure everything is turned in to your child’s teacher by this WEDNESDAY! We lock grades this day!

        -This THURSDAY is HIGH SCHOOL T-SHIRT DAY! We celebrate our college day once a month and now will be incorporating High School too! J

        -Last day for AR is WEDNESDAY! Please help your child read at night this has been homework since DAY 1.

 

Please be on the LOOK OUT for a notice to go home about scheduling a Fall conference with your child’s teacher. This should be going home soon! J Please fill it out and bring it back to your child’s teacher. Conferences are scheduled on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE Basis so sign up for several times that work with your schedule. We can’t wait to meet with you! J

 

This week we will be taking our WRITING test. This is over correct grammar and will be taken on Friday! We are preparing for our Math unit test taken next week!

This will begin our 5th week of school and we have really enjoyed having your child! J Thank you for visiting! Some of the things going on this week are…

-PTA “Back to School” Pep Rally will be Monday, Sept. 21 @ 6:30

-Book Fair will be going on THROUGH Thursday, Sept. 24

-Friday, Sept. 26 is PICTURE DAY! Dress to impress and bring your SMILE :)

Please remember to check your child’s PONY notebook DAILY! This is a very important way to communicate with you daily about behavior, homework, graded papers, etc. so please ask your child about it daily. :)

AR is continuing and each class is striving to complete their goals. Please encourage your child to read 20–30 minutes nightly aloud and take a test in the morning if they are ready. :) By now, they will know their level in which they can check out AR books from the library and should be taking tests daily, if not weekly!

**FYI - We will be TESTING through MAP this week! **

We are working very hard in class and at home! Here is what to expect this week!

Math – Adding & Subtracting numbers to the thousands, subtracting numbers across 0000’s, and review rounding

Reading – Summary (BeginningMiddleEnd) of stories. **This is a great way to help your child be ready for AR**

Science – Measurement (length, width, height) & units of measurement

Writing – Personal Narratives and good strong beginnings!

Social Studies – Star Spangled Banner and the U.S. Constitution

Grammar – Correct use of “and, or, but”

Spelling – Long /i/ words
