Order of Operations Surgery 11/11/2014

This past week we have been talking about the order of operations! Students learned about P.E.M.D.A.S. and how that is used to solve equations. Yes, we understand this is not considered a grade level TEK but, we were so proud that the students caught on quickly, showed deep understanding, as well as enjoyed the challenge! Third grade loves to bump up that rigor and watch the students rise to the occasion! J We were definitely impressed by how hard they worked to save their person’s life! J
During this activity we had “bodies” on the table and students had to complete three equations to save their person’s life.

A couple of things going on for this upcoming week! This is our last week before we have an entire week off to celebrate Thanksgiving! College day will be this Tuesday 11/18/2014 so be sure to wear your favorite college t-shirt to school with normal dress code pants! This Thursday is Chick Fil-A night at the Rowlett location so be sure to drive by or eat in and let them know you’re there to support our school!   Friday we have the awesome magic show so remember to bring your $2.00! Half of that money gets donated to our school! J REMEMBER NO SCHOOL 11/24 -11/28

Just a reminder! Please have your child study their multiplication facts, spelling words, and be reading for AR nightly! If your child is struggling with AR or you would just like to ask them questions to help them become a better reader, please check out the following PDF. This came from Pinterest but has come in handy so we thank the creators of this page! Print it off and use it how you’d like! Enjoy! :)

Red Ribbon Week

October 27th – 31st, 2014

This upcoming week, we will be celebrating Drug Awareness week to show our commitment to be a drug free community. Each day this week we will be doing different activities at school to show our pledge to be drug free! J If your child participates each of the 5 days, he or she will receive a coveted SPIRIT STICK that says “Drugs are Despicable” to hang from their backpack! The schedule follows…

Monday… We will sign a banner and pledge to be drug free.

Tuesday… Discuss what things you could do instead of doing drugs! (Discussing this at home would be a great thing too!)

Wednesday… We will commit to being drug free and wear RED shirts. (Pictures will be taken this day!)

Thursday… STOMP OUT DRUGS by wearing mis-matched shoes!

Friday…We will show our understanding that drugs are used for cures by wearing PINK. (This will be when we take our annual PINK OUT picture!)

News in the rooms…

We are still taking money and forms for parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles to join our PTA! Please sign up by sending the form and $8.50 with your child to school. The class with the most participation gets a pizza party! J

This year we will continue to focus Colleges. The more this is discussed the more it helps students develop a plan for after high school. J We are planning for your child’s future! We have already celebrated Career Day this year and now one Tuesday a month, we will have a day to show our love for our favorite college! The schedule is found here... on this link below!

Your child would also benefit from memorizing their multiplication facts using flash cards. They can easily be found in Target, Walmart, Dollar Store, etc. You could also make them at home. J This memorization will not only benefit them now, but will stick with them throughout their lives!

Thanks again for visiting! :)

Rounding the end of the first six weeks…

September 29, 2014 – October 3, 2014

Welcome to our Third Grade Blog!

We are more than happy to have you here! Thanks for coming! :) We will be updating our blog weekly from here on out so updates will come usually Mondays. Be sure to come back and check that out!

Last Friday our school celebrated Career Day! We had several people come and talk to us about their careers. We want to send out a very sincere thank you to those who spoke to our kiddos and answered questions! We know the kids loved it and were excited to learn more about being a lawyer, a veterinarian, and a nurse! Thank you again for coming! :)  Some of the students chose to dress up as what they would like to go to college to become. We had teachers, vets, engineers, IRS workers, even a future president! We all look forward to watching you grow this year and look forward to seeing you make your impact on the world later on!

This Monday, October 6th, 2014 we will have our Fair Day! That means no school! Go eat some yummy fair food and ride some awesome rides! :) We will be seeing you bright and early Tuesday, October 7th, 2014.

Please click below to upload our homework sheet! Just a reminder, do not work ahead and be sure to show all your work! J

April 7 - 11, 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for coming to school on Monday! We know it was marked on the GISD calendar as a “Bad Weather Day” so we are glad you came to make it up with us!  We will have April 18th off of school.

We have 9 days left until we take the STAAR test in Math and Reading! Please remind your child of their homework nightly! They will continue having homework in math and reading to practice for the STAAR.  Please go over your child’s homework with them and have them tell you the reason for their answer. Letting them teach you how to solve problems reinforces their understanding.

Please remember to check out our third grade blog here via our QR code. Scan this with your smart phone and this will take you right to the blog! J

Please be sure to continue to read with your child nightly for at least 20 minutes. This is a vital part of their education and lives! J

We will be locking down for Report Cards on April 17th so be sure if your child missed any school that he/she turns in their work that was missed. J Be expecting your child’s report card home April 28th.

Here is a copy of our spelling/homework sheet for this week.
