We are finally finished with our Reading and Math testing this week! J We are so proud of all the students for doing their best on the test! 200 club has really prepared them for this type of testing and we are so happy they worked so hard!

To celebrate, we are having our READINGPALOOZA day today. The students have brought pillows, blankets, flashlights, and their favorite books to read all day long today. They are so very excited to be reading and doing activities involving reading today. (I’m going to say the flashlight reading was there favorite! J)

Do not forget that we will celebrate the Life of Mr. Rice by having Mr. Rice Day tomorrow during the day! If you bought a shirt to support that family please wear it tomorrow. We will be taking a picture of the participants! J

Do not forget that tomorrow night is also Pearson Family Movie/Reading night! The reading portion of the night starts at 6:00 pm but the Movie night will begin at dusk on the lawn. Bring dinner, the family, blankets, and chairs and come hang out with your Pearson pals!

Hey there! WOW what an amazing time we have been having here! We had a great time at our field trip to the Dr. Pepper Center to go ice skating! We enjoyed our time there and had a lot of fun! This field trip reinforced what we have learned about the water cycle, ice (waters solid form), and how temperature effects that. We appreciate all the parents that went with us! We hope it helped you relive some skating memories. J

The February calendar has come out and a couple of big reminders for this month…

-We will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a party on 2/13 at 2:30. Look for more information on this to be brought home in your child’s PIE folder.

-The Schoastic Book Fair will begin 2/13 and continue through 2/20. It will be open daily from 7:50 am until 3:50 am. Students will have some library time to look through the book fair. You can send money with your child to purchase books. We also have a night 2/16 that parents can come from 6:30 – 8:00 to check out the book fair!

       - 2/17 will be our College Day! Support your favorite college and wear a college shirt!

       - 2/19 is the conference night. Conferences will be 15 minutes long and no conferences will be scheduled after 8:00 pm that evening. Please be looking for a conference invitation from your child’s teacher.  J

       - Grades lock 2/20 so be sure if your child was absent to remind them to have all missing assignments in by the 20th.

-2/27 Spring pictures of the class and individually will be taken.

If you would like to send us pictures of any of the field trip please send those to your teacher as soon as possible! We know it would be great to have for the yearbook, blog, and classroom! Thank you for your support this year!

 2015

We hope everyone had a very happy holiday and a nice time during the break! J We are now in our 2nd week back to school in our new year and things are heating up in third grade! Some things to remember this week…

-      Please be helping your child with AR nightly. Most of AR is done in the home and we are counting on our students to be reading at least 20 – 30 minutes every night. This can be a great time to spend with family, siblings, or even right before bed to relax.

-      Next Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day so no school next Monday, January 19, 2015.

-      Please be sure your child has a coat/jacket to bring to school. It is very cold outside and we want them to be warmed up when they get here. J

Thursday, January 29th, 2015 we will be going on our Ice Skating field trip to remember the water cycle and properties of water in a fun way! Be sure to dress warmly, gloves, hats, scarves, and thick socks!

The City of Rowlett Parks and Recreations is getting ideas from students to help them recreate the park that used to be Kids Kingdom a few years ago. Please make sure if your child is interested in sharing their ideas they draw/describe them on the sheet of paper that was included in your child’s report card. Turn this page into your teacher by Friday, January 16th, 2015 to give to the Parks and Recreations representative that will be here.

We hope everyone has a fantastic week! Please let us know if there is anything you would like to see on our blog! J We would love input from our parents and students! Thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

This week we are out of school to celebrate Thanksgiving with our family, friends, and important people we love. The third grade team hopes you enjoy this time off!  The entire week to READ, relax, have a great time, and hopefully get caught up on some holiday shopping! J When we get back we really get the ground running with school work so please make sure your child is well rested and ready to learn when they come to school on Monday. Can’t believe December is almost here!!

Here's the link to some great Scholastic books! Feel free to order online and get your books shipped to school to be delivered to your child! :)

Order of Operations Surgery 11/11/2014

This past week we have been talking about the order of operations! Students learned about P.E.M.D.A.S. and how that is used to solve equations. Yes, we understand this is not considered a grade level TEK but, we were so proud that the students caught on quickly, showed deep understanding, as well as enjoyed the challenge! Third grade loves to bump up that rigor and watch the students rise to the occasion! J We were definitely impressed by how hard they worked to save their person’s life! J
During this activity we had “bodies” on the table and students had to complete three equations to save their person’s life.

A couple of things going on for this upcoming week! This is our last week before we have an entire week off to celebrate Thanksgiving! College day will be this Tuesday 11/18/2014 so be sure to wear your favorite college t-shirt to school with normal dress code pants! This Thursday is Chick Fil-A night at the Rowlett location so be sure to drive by or eat in and let them know you’re there to support our school!   Friday we have the awesome magic show so remember to bring your $2.00! Half of that money gets donated to our school! J REMEMBER NO SCHOOL 11/24 -11/28

Just a reminder! Please have your child study their multiplication facts, spelling words, and be reading for AR nightly! If your child is struggling with AR or you would just like to ask them questions to help them become a better reader, please check out the following PDF. This came from Pinterest but has come in handy so we thank the creators of this page! Print it off and use it how you’d like! Enjoy! :)

Red Ribbon Week

October 27th – 31st, 2014

This upcoming week, we will be celebrating Drug Awareness week to show our commitment to be a drug free community. Each day this week we will be doing different activities at school to show our pledge to be drug free! J If your child participates each of the 5 days, he or she will receive a coveted SPIRIT STICK that says “Drugs are Despicable” to hang from their backpack! The schedule follows…

Monday… We will sign a banner and pledge to be drug free.

Tuesday… Discuss what things you could do instead of doing drugs! (Discussing this at home would be a great thing too!)

Wednesday… We will commit to being drug free and wear RED shirts. (Pictures will be taken this day!)

Thursday… STOMP OUT DRUGS by wearing mis-matched shoes!

Friday…We will show our understanding that drugs are used for cures by wearing PINK. (This will be when we take our annual PINK OUT picture!)

News in the rooms…

We are still taking money and forms for parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles to join our PTA! Please sign up by sending the form and $8.50 with your child to school. The class with the most participation gets a pizza party! J

This year we will continue to focus Colleges. The more this is discussed the more it helps students develop a plan for after high school. J We are planning for your child’s future! We have already celebrated Career Day this year and now one Tuesday a month, we will have a day to show our love for our favorite college! The schedule is found here... on this link below!

HOMEWORK THIS WEEK…

Please be reading with your child for 20-30 minutes nightly. If you would like to have additional comprehension questions you can print them off in this PDF (there is also information about helping your kiddo with math too!)

Your child would also benefit from memorizing their multiplication facts using flash cards. They can easily be found in Target, Walmart, Dollar Store, etc. You could also make them at home. J This memorization will not only benefit them now, but will stick with them throughout their lives!

Thanks again for visiting! :)
