Dear Parents/Guardians,

          We would like to thank everyone who contributed to our Valentine's parties last Friday.  We had a wonderful time!

          The Pearson Book Fair is in full swing this week.  The book fair will be open during our PTA meeting on Monday and also during our late night conferences on Thursday.                

          On Monday, February 17th, our wonderful 1st graders will be performing during our PTA meeting.  The meeting/performance will begin at 7:00p.m.
      
Our late night conferences will be Thursday, February 20th.  If you have not requested a time to meet with me, please do so as soon as possible.

The 4th grading period ends Friday, February 21st.  All student work is due to me by Friday.  Please make sure to ask your child if all of their work has been turned in. 

We will will be learning about:
  • Math- We will continue working on our measurement unit.  
  • Reading- Our reading story for the week is Animal Houses.  We will also be taking our 3rd Reading test this week.
  • Spelling/LA/Writing- In Writing we will be discussing showing feelings in characters rather than telling them. Grammar we will be working on subject and object pronouns.
  • Science- This week we will be studying “Energy From the Sun”.
  • Social Studies- We will be discussing important historical monument sand building in America.

February 10 - 14, 2014


Dear Parents/Guardians,
 
Monday, February 10th, Dr. Adolph Brown, an internationally-recognized speaker, will be presenting at Rowlett High School.  He will be having an open discussion about practical parenting skills. All district families are encouraged to attend one of his parent events. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a complimentary pizza dinner for the first 500 guests. Presentation begins at 7 p.m.

Please remember to return your conference note with your preferred time to meet with me about your child.  We can have a face to face conference or a phone conference during the time that is listed on the conference form.

             We wanted to let you know about a change in our spelling list.  We are incorporating words from other subjects.  The subjects include: Math, Social Studies, and Science.  This is a way to reinforce new vocabulary that we are learning during the week. 

Wednesday, February 12th is Pearson Night at CiCi’s Pizza at the Rowlett location.  Please join other Pearson families for fun and dinner.

            Friday, February 14th is Valentine’s Day.  We will be having our parties at 2:30PM.  A note went home last week requesting items for the party.  Please make sure to send the requested item by Thursday.
 
We will will be learning about:
  • Math- We will continue working on our measurement unit.  
  • Reading- Our reading story for the week is Penguin Chick.  Our main skills for the week are summary and sequencing.
  • Spelling/LA/Writing- Our focus in Grammar will be pronouns. In Writing, we will be discussing and including problem and solution in our stories.
  • Science- This week we will be reviewing for our Science test.
  • Social Studies- We will be studying the Weddell Seals of Antarctica. We will be focusing on main idea, geography and map skills during this week.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

            It is time for our Spring Conferences!  Notes for available times have gone home with your student.  Please return the notes with your time preferences selected on the note.  

            A/R is an important part of 3rd grade.  Please ensure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes every night.  It helps build vocabulary and confidence in their reading ability. 

            Our first week of extended day was a success!  The students did a wonderful job and we are very proud of them.

            The last day to turn in forms for background checks will be February 7th.  You need to have a form completed if you would like to help in our classroom and assist us during field trips.

This week in class we will be learning:

Math- We will be working on measurement using customary and metric units.  
Reading- Our reading story for the week is Out of this World.  Our main skills for the week are Problem and Solution and sequencing.
Spelling/LA/Writing- In Spelling we will be learning about words that contain the soft “c” and “g” letters.  Our focus in Grammar will be irregular words.
Science- This week we will be studying “Water: A Natural Resource”.
Social Studies- We will be studying a famous American soldier and Statesman.

January 27 - 31, 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians,

            On Monday, January, 27th, is the first day of Extended Day.  If your child received a note requesting they come, please make sure that they attend.  Extended Day is Monday and Thursday of every week.  Please see the note for the specific dates for this tutoring.

Our PTA will be having a meeting on Monday, January 27th at 7:00 p.m.  2nd grade will also be performing.

  • Spelling/LA/Writing- In Spelling we will be working on Homophones.  Our focus in Grammar will be main and helping verbs.
  • Science- This week we will be studying soil formations.
  • Social Studies- We will be discussing famous Americans who have influenced our country’s culture and community.

January 20-24, 2014

Parents/Guardians,
 
             We hope that everyone enjoyed their 3 day weekend!  We did!J

             On Friday, January, 17th, Extended Day forms were sent out.  If your child received one, please make sure to review the information and return the form back to school as soon as possible.

We will be locking down for progress reports this Wednesday, January 22nd.  Please encourage your child to have all of their work completed by Tuesday at 3:00PM.  If not, their redo papers will not be reflected in their progress report.

            Wednesday, January 22nd is also our field trip to Sachse High School to see The Spell of Sleeping Beauty.  We will leave around 8:30 and return before lunch.

            Progress Reports will be sent home, Friday, January 24th. After reviewing the report with your child, please sign and return it to school.

This week we will be learning about:
  1. Math- We will continue working on fractions. 
  2. Reading- Our reading story for the week is A Growing Interest.  Our main skill for the week is Problem and Solution, as well as Drawing Conclusions. 
  3. Spelling/LA/Writing- In Grammar we will be working on Contractions.  In writing will be working on elaborating on story details.
  4. Science- We will studying the rapid changes in the Earth’s surface.
  5. Social Studies- We will be discussing Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Declaration of Independence.

January 13-17, 2014


Dear Parents,

            We hope that the first week back to school after our break was a great one for everyone.  We can’t believe that we are going into our 2nd week of the 4th Six Weeks of the year!

            We have another very busy week ahead of us.  Today (Monday), you should have received your child’s report card.  Once you have reviewed their report card, please sign the envelope and return it to school.

            Our Awards Assemblies for the 3rd Six Weeks will be Friday, January 17th.  The assembly for PreK, K, 1st and 4th grades will be at 8:15.  The assembly for 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades will be at 9:00 AM.

            The deadline to turn in the field trip money and form for "The Spell of Sleeping Beauty" is Friday, January 17th.

            Monday, January 20th will be a Student and Staff Holiday in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  See everyone Tuesday, January 21st!
 
This week we will be learning about:
Math- We will continue working on fractions. 
Reading- Our reading story for the week is Nacho and Lolita.  Our main skill for the week is THEME. 
Spelling/LA/Writing- In spelling we will be covering words that are plural.  In Grammar we will be working on linking verbs.
Science- We will continue working focusing on the Earth’s Surface.
Social Studies- We will be learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his contributions to the world.

Dear Parents,

            Welcome back to school! We hope that you and your family had a wonderful break! J

            We are jumping right back into our routine.  This week is the beginning of our 4th Six Weeks. 

Your student will be getting their new A/R goal for the 4th Six Weeks.  Please encourage your student to read daily.  When possible, please ask them to tell you about their book.

This Wednesday, January 8th, is Pearson Night at CiCi’s Pizza at the Rowlett location.  Please come and support our school.

Friday, January 10th,  Positive Proof will be visiting our campus. Information about this program was sent out before our break. 
      
 This week we will be learning about:
Math- We will be reviewing Area and Perimeter and introducing fractions. 

Reading- Our reading story for the week is Seven Spools of Thread.  The skills for the week are making inferences and drawing conclusions. 

Spelling/LA/Writing- We will be reviewing diphthong sounds “ou” and “ow” in Spelling.  In Grammar we will be working on the verbs “be” and “have”.

Science- We will take our Forces In Motion curriculum assessment and begin our Earth’s Surface study.

Social Studies- Our focus will be on time lines, research, and map skills.
